Well here we are in spring already. The detachment has been very busy working our Legion programs as well as preparing for our future growth. Many of us attended the spring conference held at LakeLanierIslands where we were able to conduct quite a bit of business for our Detachment. One of the most exciting results for me personally was the creation of a line item in our budget clearing the path for our soon to be up and running Detachment of Georgia web site. The address will be sonsga.org
It is my hope this web site will connect us in ways unimaginable only a few years ago. I envision great information being supplied statewide with very little effort and fantastic results. I am excited about the creation of an Information and technology committee headed by Mr. Tim Thomas with several other members paving the way to create a web site the nation will look at with amazement.
We are currently at 90.239. % in our membership. Thank you to all who have worked so hard to make this happen. We are not done yet though. We need less than 500 members to reach 100%. I am concerned about the fact that we still have several squadrons that have failed to provide the Detachment with their certification and bond. This is not acceptable and must be corrected immediately.
I want to thank all who participated in the American Legion National Commander’s Visit. The National commander was undoubtedly very impressed with the hospitality he received during his tour of our great state of Georgia.
Although the entire tour was very special, I was most impressed with the legion post homes that had all three organizations working together to make their functions a great success. It truly is a sight to behold when all of us come together for a common purpose regardless of what that task might be.
I want to express special recognition and heartfelt appreciation for the fantastic job the American Legion Riders did escorting the Department of Georgia throughout the National Commander’s visit. The riders endured bitter cold temperatures and many challenges on our trip, yet handled the tour flawlessly as well as with great enthusiasm and professionalism.
Finally I want to thank all of you in our GreatState who are working so hard to improve the lives of so many veterans as well as their families in our communities’ state and nation.
For God and Country
