Message from Detachment Commander, Mark Wells

June 16, 2009

As we near the end of another year in the Detachment of Georgia I want to take time to say thank you to all of the hard working, dedicated, loyal Sons members who have made this year very successful. Without each and every one of you we would not be nearly as successful as we were this year.

I had the privilege of reviewing the numbers compiled from our consolidated reports and I must say with only 50% cooperation in actually turning a report in, the Detachment of Georgia is a force to be reckoned with. I am sure the numbers would be much greater if all of our squadrons would turn in a report.

We can all be proud of the projects the sons were involved with this year. We had strong numbers in all of our usual categories, Children and youth, Americanism, as well as our Veterans programs. We can all be proud of the fact that together we have made a difference in many lives in our community, state, and nation.

As we near the end of my term as Detachment commander I want to thank everyone throughout the state that has supported me this year. This was an experience of a lifetime and I thoroughly enjoyed the pleasure of being Detachment Commander for this great state of Georgia.

I have met so many wonderful and dedicated legion family members. I had the privilege of seeing many of our legion homes working together on great programs, Sons, Auxiliary, as well as legionnaires working as legion families to achieve fantastic results and making such an impact on so many people.

We have come a long way this year, yet next year promises to be even better. We can look forward to having our first National commander of the Sons of the American Legion Mark Arneson being installed in Lexington, Kentucky, in August. Mark will surely achieve great things as National commander which will only support the idea that our Detachment is one of the greatest in the Nation.

For God and Country,
Mark F. Wells
